"I haven't owned a bike for over 30 years and it's a real pleasure to own this one. it's not trendy or cool but it's easy to ride around the park and along the river towpath. would definitely recommend it to any dad who just wants to keep up with his 9 year old on a Sunday afternoon."

Pros: ride, comfort, easy maintenance, light weight, good bottom end gearing
Cons: needs higher top end gearing
"Tube blew on the first day. Replaced by the shop. No problems since then, and I've had the bike around 12 months. Low end gearing is fine but could do with a higher ratio top end. Comfy ride. Seat is ok. Brakes/gears easy to set up. Still using it in a roughly "out-of-the-box" setup. Added lights, computer, bottle and pump and I can be self sufficient anywhere. It has performed well on roads, paths, bridlepaths, canal towpaths and has kept me free from being saddle-sore over rides in excess of eight hours. All in all an excellent choice for my return to cycling. Especially as it cost half of what it is advertised at."

"Previously I had been using a mountain bike for my commuting purposes but finally made the change to the Apollo I have found my rides to work faster, smoother and so far can't fault the bike on anything.
An ideal purchase for anyone who does a constant commute and the occasional bike rides along forest trails etc."

Review 7 for Apollo CX.10S Mens 21" Town & Trail Bike
Cons: grip shift gears not good if you have big hands
"My son bought one of these, but didn't like how it handled. He took my road bike I got the CX10s.
Being a fussy fellow I checked the bike over and decided that some things had to change before I used it.
Off came the grip shift changers, on went combined gear and brake levers. Saddle chucked in favour of a cut away slim one, micro adjust seat post fitted. 28/38/48 chain rings and appropriate deraileur fitted along with dual spd pedals, a sealed bottom bracket, mudguards and pannier rack, a new chain was added to the drivetrain and a quick release back axle added. Lights, pump rack and water bottle cages were also added.
Result one nice little reliable commuter/light touring bike.
The wheels are not the greatest and I had problems with it blowing tubes on a regular basis. A switch to presta valve tubes of a decent make solved that problem.
I've spent around £200 in upgrading the bike, but I'm never happy with a bike straight from the box anyway and I enjoy tinkereing and getting the bike right for me.
If I get some spare cash I would love to upgrade the wheels, maybe for cassette hub types, then I can add a more gears, but that would mean a complete drive train change including levers.
As it is straight from the box it's a good bike and for the money good value. Ten years ago a bike of this spec would have cost around £400 so in that light it's a good buy.
I've done a few longish runs on it, (60 +miles in a day) and never found it wanting."

Pros: comfortable position.could ride for miles
Cons: crankset too small.jumpy gears
"I bought the cx 10s about 10 weeks ago and i have to admit for a lower end bike you wont go far wrong. The riding position is excellent. The only problem I have had is the rear gears which do seem to jump at the worst moments and do need adjustment more than i think they should.Having said that the gear change is very positive in general. I completed the London to Brighton bike ride on this bike with no problems whatsoever.Changing the tyres to a 32c slick helps a great deal. This bike could also do with a bigger crankset as you do tend to freewheel down hills that are not very steep. The staff at the pipps hill,Basildon branch are excellent and any time i have had a problem they have always been more than helpful and nothing is too much trouble."

Pros: price, build, halford's assembly/help
Cons: gearing
"I chose this bike over the slightly cheaper red Apollo and I'm glad I did, the Aluminium Frame makes it a lot lighter. The price seems to yoyo depending on Halfords offers but it's still good value. It's mostly very comfortable but the only disappointment is the gearing. It jumps out of gear quite easily, especially if you try and get away fast and also the ratios are such that the highest gear is still not very high limiting your speed when cycling fast or downhill."

Pros: alloy position looks
Cons: brakes wear quickly
"I have had this bike for a year and completed 5000 miles. I have had a problem with the bearings (£ 10 to fix - big deal) and one wheel replaced under warranty. The bike is generally solid, very reliable and offers a great riding position. I have 2 other bikes (one cost much more ) but I keep choosing this one. I commute 25 miles daily and would recommend this to any one. This bike is capable of good speed if you're fit enough."

"I have just got back from an exhausting test run on the Apollo CX.10s and I am still smiling. I have been looking for a good town bike for a while now. I personally needed a bike that would be comfortable on the road and that could just as easily go off-road onto trials and bridleways. For this purpose this is a great bike. I decided to shell out the extra money for 10s model as you can really feel the difference in weight between the standard steel frame CX.10 and the aluminium CX.10s. I (luckily/unluckily) live in a hilly area so the 21 gears are really useful. Going uphill I found the lowest gear to be more than adequate for the steepest inclines however I would have liked a bit more oomph going downhill, I still manged to get the "Slow down 30" speed trap to flash at me so I can't grumble too much. The brakes are sharp and the ride was pretty comfortable. Off road and onto the bridleway the bike still performs well, giving good grip, although the ride becomes noticibly more bumpy. I have had a few problems with it , the chain has come off twice, but on a trip to Halfords to get some mud guards fitted, I had a chat with the store manager Alex who on hearing about the prob took it in and tightened it up... I have not had any other problems since. As an added bonus I think it looks pretty smart too."
