Pros: good frame, good brakes Cons: everything else
"me and a mate bought this bike in weeks of each other, between us had numerous problems, spokes puncturing innertubes both bikes affected, a buckled front wheel on my bike just off normal riding, plastic windows on gearing flew off on my bike, bottom rear suspension bolt snapped on my mates bike, and the saddle on mine split. basically we have both lost confidence in the bike, cant fault the lads in halfords they have rectified most problems (except the widows on the gear switches on my bike ) the frame is solid, we only go out on light trails, no jumps or anything like that, this bike is suppose to be a good allrounder, but i would definately not buy this bike if i was going to do any serious mountain biking it just not up to the job. i now carry a boat load full of spares as i expect something to go on it every time im out on it. do yourselves a favour pay that bit extra and get a decent one, wish i had."

"I bought the Carrera Banshee on line which was a simple and affective process.The brakes are very good and the suspension,once set up to my requirements has coped well so far. Gears are easy to operate and work well.Tyres grip in all but the most muddy conditions and the ride off road is good.On road however this model Banshee could do with a rear suspension lock.All the welds on the frame look to be of good quality and the whole bike is put together well,"

"My last bike was Kona full suspension with Rockshox, XT, Mavic etc. I needed a bike in a hurry and this was on offer and I had read some positive reviews particularly about the frame. I bought it thinking I would upgrade the components over time, but since riding a few times there is nothing I can find fault with. The Suntour suspension far exceeded my expectations as did the Tektro Auriga disc brakes. The only thing I might change are the shifters as I prefer the action of Shimano XTs but the Xrams work just fine. I really dont think you could find better value for a FS bike anywhere - I tried!!"

Pros: great price, suberb brakes, adjustable suspension, front suspension full lock out Cons: weak chain, no rear suspension lock out
"I picked the bike up on Wednesday, the chain snapped on Friday while I was riding on a flat road (on the way to Halfords to return a dodgy lock!). They repaired the chain while I waited, and all was well. Sunday morning, also on a flat road the chain snapped again, and Halfords replaced it. Obviously I'm dissapointed that the chain has snapped twice, and that's before I've even given it any sort of off road test! Apart from the issue with the chain, this bike has great potential. The front & rear suspension are great (pity it has no rear lock out, although you can stiffen it somewhat), the disc brakes work flawlessly, and it looks the business! I really hope the chain 'problem' is sorted, as it's spoiling what could be a brilliant bike."

"Chain snapped on first ride! had it since Jan 09 using 3 times a week approx 2hrs a time on uphill & downhill on courses like Cwmcarn good front suss but back would be better with lock out, had to take back to halfords to replace back shock as seal broke so no resistance! but is fast on downhill."

"this bike is great the hydrolic disk brakes are realy good the forks are good, also a good thing about the forks is the lock-out, you don't get lock-out on the rear sus but you can still ajust the rebound and use a shock pump to put more air in the shock to make it hard or less air to make it soft and bouncy, there is one probolem i have had the front wheel is slightly buckled and keeps rubing against the brake pad but doesn't slow me down also there seems to be a noise that sounds like sumthing is rubbing together that shouldn't be."

Great suspension, brakes, frame, so-so gears,March 4, 2009

"I bought this for a mix of cross-country and downhill 6 months ago and have been very impressed.
Good points are the brakes are superb in all conditions, adjustable suspension both ends makes it comfy and combined with good tyres grip is easy to find. It also looks good at least to me!
Weight is reasonable, and the seat is pretty comfortable. Bars are quite wide which I like.
On the downside, the finish on the crack and pedals is rubbing off fast, and front and rear mech are not the most accurate. First upgrade will be to switch these for Shimano Deore items. Frame, wheels and other bits showing no signs of wear yet. And the grips keep slipping off the bars - nothing a spot of superglue won't fix.
Only other niggle is no lock-out on rear air shock.
Overall, I would definitely recommend and am very happy."

Pros: good brakes, good fork Cons: not up to the job, bottom bracket needs upgrade, rear shock not strong enough, wheels are heavy, gearing not sharp enough
"The Banshee is actually a good bike for knocking around the smaller trails but take it of road properly and it cannot cope. It is meant to be an all mountain rig and it isn't. The bottom bracket is a power spline which has a real problem where the crank arms and chain set become loose or even end up coming off, they should be upgraded to the Deore hollow tech which are the same price and perform much better with very good reliability. The lower fixing bolt on the rear shock is week, give it some serious work and it can snap, this one is from experience of it happening. However if you sort these out then you could possibly have a good bike although the weight is a bit much on a serious climb but on the other hand it performs ok DH as long as the bolt is replaced on the rear shock. Personally I would opt for the Fury as it easily out performs the Banshee and weighs a lot less due to no rear shock set up. At this price range you get more for your money if you buy hard tail rather than full sus. It may suit some but if you use it properly ie cwmcarn then she will be out of her class."

"What a bike just upgraded from an aging Saracen Manta 1 and I have to stay its a whole new ball game. The hydraulic disc brakes are fantastic , having full suspension as opposed to a hard tail is great experience and the build quality feels rock solid! Worth every penny!"

"Really good bike although handlebar grips and pedals wear out very easliy ( invest in some dmr v12 pedals and dmr v8 grips) Apart from that only had one main problem the back gear hanger snaped. The bike could do with a better back shock as it bottoms out if not pump to highest PSI but overall brilliant bike for the price."
