Pros: easy to use menus, head set helmet freindly
Cons: perhaps too many options, customer help poor, software crashes
"The overal impresion is it could have been very very good system far more options than the Garmin Zumo like being able to avoid motorways can be and hl or used in the car (extra spend) a down side is the software failure and the customer services being extremly un helpfull leaves you very disapointed.
The head set is good when it works but mine has been back twice (less than10 months old)and still not working? Repairs should take 5-10 working days but double that normally a month.

Pros: easy to use
Cons: high subsequent costs
"The tom tom rider does it's basic job well, with clear maps and instructions.
What disapointed me was the fact that to get traffic information you had to have it connected to your mobile phone - this is not usually a problem, but the list of compatable phones is so small & not one of them a current product! I only found this out when I purchased a "Traffic Subscription" (at a cost of £35) only to be told, when I tried to use it, that "this feature is not supported"!! I also don't like the fact that TomTom charge a yearly subscription for "Traffic" - Garmin charge you £45 for a Traffic Receiver but that is a "one off" lifetime cost not £30+ per year!!
Basic message - Get a Garmin!

Pros: worry free travel to a strange city
Cons: some of the software features are questionable
"I bought my TomTom Rider V2 back in March.
A trip to Ireland was looming and I couldn’t be bothered with buying new maps and preparing a detailed route that would find me lost the first time I missed a signpost buried in a hedge. It was time to trust the technology.
The Rider V2 comes with a Cardo scala-rider headset for in helmet instructions. The battery on mine lasts for over a week. A bluetooth phone can also be paired so that calls can be received on the move.
RAM mounting hardware attaches the TomTom to the bike. This fitted quite easily, although a certain degree of trial and error is needed to get it in the best position. It also eliminates the dodgy cradles that were supplied to the V1 model.
A battery cable, home charging kit and carry case are also included.
The Rider is really easy to use and I found that the touch screen worked a treat. The supplied instructions are a bit overly simplistic but an hour of button pressing soon had me up to speed on all the options.
The route planning is easy. Just type in a postcode, or the name of the road and town where you want to go, followed by the sort of journey you want to take. The Rider then calculates the route and you’re ready to go. Instructions are given through the headset and the screen shows the route.
The software has clearly been adapted from the car versions and it would have been nice if TomTom had bothered to remove some of the car features like ‘Nearest car repair services’ and replaced or added a list of bike shops. Why the ‘Trip Stats’ needs to record the maximum speed you’ve ridden at is also questionable. If you've been going a bit too quick you can reset this by taking the memory card out and then replacing it.
Battery life on my Rider is also excellent, I get about 10 hours to a charge. This is useful as it sits nicely in the ashtray of my car so I don't have to bother with the car mount.
It’s by far the easiest way of getting around an unfamiliar area.
It’s certainly one of the best buys I’ve made recently.

Pros: good clear mapping, quality basic headset, good speed camera warnings
Cons: unacceptable build quality, poor durability, cradle device is poor
"A really good system fatally let down by poor build quality. I like tomtom, I think it has a clear mapping system, it is fairly intuitive, the speed camera warnings are loud and clear and the spoken commands through rhe scala headset are clear in a good lid, but the build quality is rubbish, so yes I like the idea, but no I would not buy another one, nor would I recommend one and I am off to Halfords to get my money back. This is the second one of these I have had and both have let me down, and the problem appears to be the cradle. I am a high mileage rider, and hate using maps so a sat nav is pretty well essential to me. The Halfords guy who sold this to me was excellent, letting me link my bluetooth headset to it before I bought the unit to check compatibility as well as letting me hook my phone up. He was also a biker (GSXR750) and couldn't do more to help me. 5***** for Halfords, 1* for tomtom. If you have got a good product, build the thing properly! The phone hook up is poor but I don't really like taking calls on the bike so this did not really worry me."
