Pros: cheap hifi upgrade, easy to fit, is easily hidden, huge bass enhancement
Cons: frequency range isn't massive, should supply velcro backing
"For a small amount of money you can upgrade your feeble bass sounding OEM car HiFi unit. The installation of this unit is quite straightforward. Because it is slimline it will fit under most seats, out of sight. For the money, fantastic."

Good budget `fill in` bass system

Pros: small & descreet, comes with all wiring including rca leads
Cons: takes longer to setup than to install
"I was hesitant to purchase this active subwoofer as I am used to spending much more on seperate amps and subs for previous cars. This time I wanted something I could hide away inside my 5 series BMW. This fitted perfectly under the passenger seat and took less than 30 mins to route wiring and install. Its not for bass junkies, which personally I have grown out of and wish to listen to an overall decent sound quality rather than heavy subwoofer and amps that just cost money to drive around in-so this was perfect. The bass produced is good enough to fill-in missing bass notes in an already solid system I have. Mutant have what looks to be an IDENTICAL unit and sells for £99! So this is a steal!"

Ripspeed Sub
,
May 23, 2009
Pros: size and price
Cons: cant think of any to be honest
"Wanted something small as my boot is tiny, and found this little gem. Great item, fits neatly under drivers seat, and also comes with a remote to increase or decrease the bass.
Not got sound like a standard sub you would put in your boot, but it does the job just nicely on improving the sound. Your not going to be knocking people off the pavement with the vibrations from this, but thats not what I really wanted, just general sound improvement and it does this very well."

Superb Value Mini Bass Booster!

Pros: excellent value for money, small enough to fit in the tightest spaces, surprisingly powerful
Cons: difficult to fit yourself, the cosmetics look a little cheap, not technically a subwoofer
"Although, like any car audio product, it was a pain in the backside to install, once it was in and working, it sounded great. It complemets my 10cm Kenwoods perfectly. Dropping the bass out of the Kenwoods and letting the Ripspeed take care of the bottom end has increased the overall volume of my system to near blistering levels. By no means a sub, but an excellent bass enhancer with plenty of kick. Highly recommended."

Good results for the money.

Pros: price, size
Cons: build quality of remote
"I was very sceptical about this product. £40 'sub' by Ripspeed. Hmmm...
I have fitted this in my Lotus Elise and it is a great fit in the passenger footwell (no room under seats in an Elise)! Anyone who has a driven an Elise will know how poor the sound is... speech is good, but there is precious little audible low mid even standing still. All I wanted was a box to fill in the bottom end- I wasn't expecting big box levels of bottom octave... and well, I haven't got it! What I have now is actually quite a well balanced range. I can hear lower bass notes at last. Its quite punchy too and therefore might be useful in other cars which already have an average/good full range system. You're not going to be vibrating any windows, but that's not what I was aiming for- and neither should you with this sub. You'll need a big volume box and a big amp!
Build quality on the sub itself is pretty good- plastic of course, but nice and rigid and no rattles/buzzes. The bundled remote is dreadful though- poorly made and has a grounding issue in the cable. Now its fixed in place it is fine though. (Incidentally, this is the second remote tried- both had the same problem- tried on two subs.)
So, if space is an issue and you want to improve rather than burst an ear-drum; for £40 you can't go wrong."

Better than you might think...

"From the price and lack of info available about this sub, you'd expect it to be fairly bad. However given the price it is actually rather good.
I bought one to fit in a Peugeot 107 to add some bass to the front 10cm speakers and it makes the world of difference.
Best to think of it as a bigger bass speaker than a sub as you won't have the car shaking with this one. It does a good job of fleshing out the sound from smaller speakers and also means that you don't have to crank the bass up on the head unit, meaning that your existing speakers can go louder without distorting."
