Cheap, capable, but inefficient, October 4, 2008

Pros: cheap
Cons: heavy, difficult to ride, punishing ride

"There's nothing wrong with this bike in theory. You push the pedals, and it goes forwards. You pull the brakes, and it stops. The standard tyres are fit for road, and casual offroad, use. There's a decent spread of gears, and nothing has fallen off mine yet.

However, it's a heavy lump, and the drivetrain is frustratingly inefficient for a bike with no suspension. Pedal clips help, but it really does take some straining and downshifting to get and keep it moving. My even cheaper Shockwave MTB with 26" wheels is vastly easier and more pleasant to ride, although with a lower top speed.

The weight also makes it a crashing and punishing ride over any sort of bumps. Hills are a horrid experience.

I couldn't in good conscience recommend this bike, and I don't think the problems can be fixed with tinkering. It's cheap, but I'd recommend spending a bit more than this on a bike, since it's just not enjoyable or efficient to ride this bike."
