Do not buy - this carrier fell off on my first use, October 13, 2008

Cons: damaged my car when it fell off, poor quality product, not recommended or used by halford own staff

"DO NOT BUY
Despite its name - its not that advanced.
Despite following instructions precisely and taking over 1 hour to fit and double check it was secure and correctly fitted to my Astra, it fell off my car on my first trip at low speed!!
It was only a test trip on local suburban roads with one bike fitted - even so as I went at 10mph over a speed cushion - the metal supporting stays badly buckled and bike and carrier fell off onto road.
What was worse was that it has badly scratched and gouged my car bodywork.
I am now in the process of putting in a claim for the damage to my car with Halford HQ.
All credit to Shane the Duty Manger at Halford Leigh store who replaced the faulty \ damaged carrier with alternative bike carrier - Halfords Rear High Mount 3 Cycle Carrier - which he recommended and uses himself. This is a much more robust and secure carrier which I have used with no problems."

"This is the first bike rack I have brought, and me and my husband was abit unsure which one to buy. This one is great, a little difficult to assemble, had to keep checking and double checking which holes and parts to use, but once it’s up it stays up and it’s really easy to connect/remove from the car. I would defiantly recommend."

Advanced cycle rack, May 30, 2008

Pros: great fitting rack no straps easily stored
Cons: frame straps are no good for spec stumpy fsr

"I had a similar problem to the other person, no pads, so I used some off my cheaper rack. Although foam pads and not feet, they worked great, and no awkward straps. Once returned from holiday I went to halfords and they speedily gave me the feet from another box so I could sell my other rack. Good service. Just a minor note I had to use the old rubber type straps for my spec stumpy fsr to mount it on, but that bike has always been a problem getting on a rack, but its great now. Oh and its now £ 20 cheaper than I paid 3 weeks ago...bummer!!"

Carrier cracked my rear window on first use, May 25, 2008
By Bystander from Oxford, England
Quality 3 out of 5 3 out of 5
Value 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

Cons: cracked my rear window on first use

"This carrier left a 4cm crack on the rear window of my Ford Mondeo Hatchback (2002) on the first use.

The instructions and settings were checked and double checked. I wasn't at all happy about tightening it as it looked like with the settings specified a lot of transversal load was being made straight into the glass. There are no rubber feet to protect the glass - even though the fitting diagrams indicate there are - it's just metal on curved glass window.

Anyway I checked and checked again, I even did a couple of searches on the internet for tales of broken windows. Found none so assumed I was getting worried about nothing. I tightened the carrier as loose as I could until it stopped moving - was still concerned at what seemed like obviously bad engineering with loads.

I then mounted two kids bikes (large kids bikes) and on the second the window shook and cracked.

I'll be contacting Halfords for a refund and will also attempt to get them to pay for a new window."

Response from Halfords: By Halfords Quality Team, June 6, 2008
This product should include rubber feet, we have no reports from stores or other customers of these being omitted.
We have a customer helpline or local stores that could havce assisted in this matter once it was identifed the instructions showed rubber feet and these were missing on this carrier
