"An entry level tune up sub. This came with simple clear instructions and was easy to fit.
I bought this sub as it's one of the only ones small enough to fit under the seat of MGTF. Sure the quality isn't up to Clarion / Alpine standards, but it does what it says on the tin. A superb price at less than £40 I really couldn't find better. Thoroughly recommended, if you can find one as stock seems to be running out."

Pros: cheap hifi upgrade, easy to fit, is easily hidden, huge bass enhancement
Cons: frequency range isn't massive, should supply velcro backing
"For a small amount of money you can upgrade your feeble bass sounding OEM car HiFi unit. The installation of this unit is quite straightforward. Because it is slimline it will fit under most seats, out of sight. For the money, fantastic."

Pros: east to wire up, good bass from such a compact item
Cons: wires were a little short to reach
"To say they were only 100w peak and 50w rms they gave quiet a considerable punch. Easy to wire up and did 'exactly what it said on the tin'. So much so, i went and bought a second one a week later to go underneath my passenger seat."

Pros: small & descreet, comes with all wiring including rca leads
Cons: takes longer to setup than to install
"I was hesitant to purchase this active subwoofer as I am used to spending much more on seperate amps and subs for previous cars. This time I wanted something I could hide away inside my 5 series BMW. This fitted perfectly under the passenger seat and took less than 30 mins to route wiring and install. Its not for bass junkies, which personally I have grown out of and wish to listen to an overall decent sound quality rather than heavy subwoofer and amps that just cost money to drive around in-so this was perfect. The bass produced is good enough to fill-in missing bass notes in an already solid system I have. Mutant have what looks to be an IDENTICAL unit and sells for £99! So this is a steal!"

Cons: halfords staff attitude
"Purchased this to go into a z3 as there isnt too many places to install a sub. i have to say i didnt expect much because of the low price, but was i wrong fantastic bass and easily adjustable made a massive difference even when the hood is down and saved me a fortune on upgrades. i have shown this to friends and all have been amazed highly recommended what do you get for forty quid nowadays ."

Pros: size and price
Cons: cant think of any to be honest
"Wanted something small as my boot is tiny, and found this little gem. Great item, fits neatly under drivers seat, and also comes with a remote to increase or decrease the bass. Not got sound like a standard sub you would put in your boot, but it does the job just nicely on improving the sound. Your not going to be knocking people off the pavement with the vibrations from this, but thats not what I really wanted, just general sound improvement and it does this very well."

Pros: excellent value for money, small enough to fit in the tightest spaces, surprisingly powerful
Cons: difficult to fit yourself, the cosmetics look a little cheap, not technically a subwoofer
"Although, like any car audio product, it was a pain in the backside to install, once it was in and working, it sounded great. It complemets my 10cm Kenwoods perfectly. Dropping the bass out of the Kenwoods and letting the Ripspeed take care of the bottom end has increased the overall volume of my system to near blistering levels. By no means a sub, but an excellent bass enhancer with plenty of kick. Highly recommended."

Pros: price, size
Cons: build quality of remote
"I was very sceptical about this product. £40 'sub' by Ripspeed. Hmmm... I have fitted this in my Lotus Elise and it is a great fit in the passenger footwell (no room under seats in an Elise)! Anyone who has a driven an Elise will know how poor the sound is... speech is good, but there is precious little audible low mid even standing still. All I wanted was a box to fill in the bottom end- I wasn't expecting big box levels of bottom octave... and well, I haven't got it! What I have now is actually quite a well balanced range. I can hear lower bass notes at last. Its quite punchy too and therefore might be useful in other cars which already have an average/good full range system. You're not going to be vibrating any windows, but that's not what I was aiming for- and neither should you with this sub. You'll need a big volume box and a big amp!
Build quality on the sub itself is pretty good- plastic of course, but nice and rigid and no rattles/buzzes. The bundled remote is dreadful though- poorly made and has a grounding issue in the cable. Now its fixed in place it is fine though. (Incidentally, this is the second remote tried- both had the same problem- tried on two subs.)
So, if space is an issue and you want to improve rather than burst an ear-drum; for £40 you can't go wrong."

Pros: easy to fit
"i used to own a car that had a fully custom sound system and when selling the car for something bigger i really missed the sounds from my car. on wanting to keep my boot space i started upgrading front and back speakers but still didnt get the bass i really missed. on hearing about this product i didnt think that something for £40 could be any good. i recieved this product for my birthdaqy and after fitting it i was completly taken by the sound this little active sub could generate and now have the bass i was craving. i would recommend this sub to anyone with a rear sub or without as this would complement any system. if you buy this produst you will not be let down by the proformance."

Pros: price, compact size, ease of installation
Cons: gain switch broke!
"I bought this to fit under the driver seat of my '03 Mini Cooper to save using up the already small boot space with big subs etc.
The active sub was very easy to fit, tapping into the 10amp power supply of my pioneer headunit and running off the sub output.
The sub adds reasonable bass to the overall sound in the car, which is just what I wanted.
BUT, within one minute of installing the sub, I attempted to turn the 'gain' switch and it broke in two. I am sure Halfords will be happy to replace it with a new one for me - but I have not had a chance to ask them yet!
Overall, for the price, I think it is a good way to add bass to your car without adding too much weight or taking too much space!
Tim"

"From the price and lack of info available about this sub, you'd expect it to be fairly bad. However given the price it is actually rather good.
I bought one to fit in a Peugeot 107 to add some bass to the front 10cm speakers and it makes the world of difference.
Best to think of it as a bigger bass speaker than a sub as you won't have the car shaking with this one. It does a good job of fleshing out the sound from smaller speakers and also means that you don't have to crank the bass up on the head unit, meaning that your existing speakers can go louder without distorting."
