Pros: the bike!, the staff at edinburgh, this bike just wants to go
Cons: gear and brake leavers need to be set up at source, the staff in falkirk, none yet!!
"How impressed am I?? I bought this bike last week and it had its first outing on Saturday afternoon. A gentle 25 mile towpath with some off road and some good downhills thrown in and it just wanted to go.....
I have an older GT and this is a very good bike but think BMW 3 series! and then think DB9! (maybe over-egged it)... this bike not only looks stunning it has all the ammo I need! Still to be tested I'm sure and there may be some teething issues but we'll see........
I bought the bile through Halfords in Hermiston Gate Edinburgh as they we're the only guys who seemed to know what they were talking about especially the guy called Craig........ (knowledgeable, informative, pleasant & a credit to Halfords)........... Take a bow Craig.

"Used a few times and quite impressed, still prefer to ride my Boardman comp hybrid on roads and cycle paths, I tried my preferred road route with this bike and found it much tougher and harder work!. Bought this really for for off road biking only and its excellent over tough terrain, only down side is chain came off twice, same happened on hybrid, maybe both bikes are not set up correctly. Suspension is excellent and I like how you can turn it off for road use. It is also light enough to carry over your shoulder when needed. 3 weeks in and I would still buy the same bike. If you want and mountain bike buy this, if road biking and cycle paths are more your forte buy the hybrid comp, or if you do both buy both! I did!"

"Recently bought this bike on the C2W program and firstly it is a stunning looking bike. Overall the equipment on the bike is excellent, i looked at other bikes nearly double the price which had the same stuff. The ride is great using the Epicon forks, smooth through dirt tracks and easy to ride on road.
Overall you get so much bike for the price, if looking for an MTB would recommend checking it out.
Staff at Halfords in Rotherham, professional and helpful, had the bike ordered, built and ready to pick up in less than 24 hours."

Pros: brakes, air adjustabe front fork, low granny gear for severe cimbs, value, light weight for price
Cons: white saddle, front cables rub frame, white grips, cheapo peddles
"Ive done a lot of MTB on my old rigid (no front suspension) 20 yr old Marin and wanted a hardtail but nothing heavier and with a front fork and disk brakes
I'm new to front suspension and disk brakes so
Bad points
1. White saddle replaced for selle italia xr - white saddle not good idea.
2. Peddles a bit cheap - replaced
3. Front cables rub fork so added foam to stop paint being rubbed off
Good Points
1. Otherwise good so far - used for off road cross country and some more serious downhill routes taken slowly - no jumping
2. Adjustable and lock out on air shock seem good
3. Hydraulic disks good and powerful - no fade so far on long very hard descents - do they ever fade?
4. Great value for money i think
Will it last 20 years abuse like my old Marin - we'll see
"

Pros: being smug cycling past costly lower spec bikes!
Cons: making it sleep in the shed
"Decent spec parts, light, handles well and all for a very reasonable price. Could of spent more on less so very satisfied....... only one minor grumble...... the suspension doesn't do the rest of the bike justice, but with the saving I made I won't moan when I have to replace them in 9 months."

Pros: light weight looks nice excellent brakes
Cons: narrow seat
"I must say i am very satisfied with this MTB, very good smooth ride, very good responsive brakes & the weight off this bike is very light compared to other MTB at Halfords.
I had a problem in my third ride (chain suck) where it was locked b/w the body & the crank but went back & the guys at halfords were very helpful & sorted it out.
My only complaint is that it has a bit of a narrow seat which gave me sore bum on 1st ride so i had to put a gel cover.
Overall i recommend thins bike. If you can afford it, go for it."

Cons: gears are well below standard
"Loved this bike from the start. everything about it is brilliant and a solid well built bike. The fork is excellent and has brilliant adjustability (compression & rebound). The only thing about the whole bike/riding experience i would have is the gears. If you can afford an upgrade dont hesitate to upgrade the rear derailleur and shifter, doing that really does make this a flawless bike. The bike is ideal for cross country being able to climb really well and rolls really well when things face down. I use mine more for trail riding without any problems. The limit to what this bike can do will always be caused by the rider. If you want a top end, top value hardtail mountain bike your money will not go to waste on this bike. It will help you find your limits and push past them with ease."

Pros: build quality, suspension, hydraulic brakes, saddle, price
Cons: gear changes
"Lightweight, strong & durable, confortable, this bike is a joy to ride. I've never owned a bike like this before but I'm so glad I paid the extra for it. The suspension travel is smooth with good rebound, the saddle (despite my initial reservations as it is so small) is surprisingly comfortable. The bike feels solid and well built. My only concern is the gear changes which feel a bit clunky, I've lost a the chain a few times. Maybe some GT85 will sort this out or a little tinkering with the adjustments, we'll see. Overall I would reccoment this bike to anyone wanting a well built and recognised brand to start in mountain biking, or as for my purposes, trail riding (canals etc)."

Pros: tough and lightweight, enjoyable ride
Cons: poor initial assembly, some bottom end components (as expected)
"Initial excitment on making the purchase wore off quickly as a number of issues arose within 50 yards of riding it for the first time...all of which I would classify as assembly problems as opposed to specification problems. Problems such as incorrect gear tuning, loose stem and headset, and a damaged valve on inner tube. If the bike had ben assembled properly initial ratings would be higher.
However all the issues were corrected with simple bike maintenence.
After having the bike for a year now I have changed the weaker components such as pedals, saddle and gear system and only had problems with the forks, although 9 times out of 10 they run seemlessly. These changes have improved the bike no end.
All in all an enjoyable and hardwearing bike, however let down by poor initial assembly.
Get one!"

Pros: great quality, good price, good looks, quite light
Cons: very poor build quality from halfords
"I bought this bike on the strength of the good reviews it had received and Halfords having a price reduction of £100. I got the bike home and later that evening took it out for a little ride, bike felt great until I tried to change into the largest gear at the front. After several attempts to try and change gear I realized the front derailleur would not go far enough over to move the chain, I tried to adjust the cable from the lever but this was jammed and would not move. At this point I took the bike home and had to tighten the gear cable at the front derailleur, and pull the cable adjuster out from the front lever which was pushed right in, I then had to adjust the front derailleur to allow the chain to connect to the large front gear, success, it was now working, unfortunately it was at this point I noticed that the front bar end cap had fallen out from the right side, this is just not good enough. I have had the bike a week now and its now great to ride, but Halfords really need to focus on build quality."

"Great value for money and quality product. The CB Comp MTB looks good, feels light and is enjoyable to ride (not tested yet on any decent off-road activity). Nice frame geometry too: rigid, light, visually pleasing, and I like the fact the cables are all on the downtube, leaving uncluttered top bar. (Tiny detail grumble about use of cable ties though.)."
